Books, CD's, and Articles

Okay, the discourser gave me a hard time about not blogging in a while...so though I have little to nothing to say today, I'll throw out a blog to appease the masses. Hmmm...

Well, I'm reading Kite Runner by Khaled Houseini. Wow, totally riveting and powerfully emotional...and not in a namby pamby way. How to describe the story.....well, think Afghanistan over the last 30 years. Yep, you probably don't want to read it now, do you....well your a Wuss. My wife insisted I read it and I resisted for 3 months. I didn't want to read this book in the same way I didn't want to read "Night" by Elli Weisel....but I guarantee, it'll be rewarding.

Listened to most of "Running with Scissors" by Agustin Burroughs and now listening to "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt, geriatric author of "Angela's Ashes". "Running with Scissors is hilarious and provides some very astute insight and observations re. the nature of unbridled psychiatric illness and it's, at times, ridiculous effects on the family dynamic. And "Teacher Man", at least so far, is turning out to be a must read for any educator.

Hmm, what else,....read about the Asian Weekly column about "Why I hate Black people". The newspaper, known for it's liberal leanings and socially conscious journalism has been utterly slammed in the media because of this article...which they've pulled from their website BTW. The editors and owner, the Fangs, have subsequently come out with an apology and have set up a round-table discussion with local activist/anti-defamation groups and community leaders in an effort to self flagellate themselves even further. The writer of the article, 22 year old Kenneth Eng, self proclaimed "Master of the Universe" and author of the sci-fi novel "Lexicon Triumvirate", is a delusional borderline psychotic with an inferiority complex, not to mention an obvious supremist psychology, with it's concomitant sense of entitlement. Clearly he's a dork who'd been beaten up by bullies as a child and teen....and now he can't get laid and in a very typically grandiose way blames black people for preventing women from seeing him as the Mandingo he truly believes he is.

Anywayz, I was curious about this pathetic man and google'd him. I discovered he'd written a number of ridiculous articles concerning the human condition and social organization. One in particular caught my attention....it's about suicide and that more people should be doing it. Damn him for making a point....hold on now, NOT about suicide mind you but about how our society is quietly complicit in viewing suicide as a "minor" tragedy of sorts....and nothing to be concerned about really.

Essentially, the VALUE of a human’s life can be operationalized,…based on a scoring system with points awarded and deducted depending on a number of criteria. Consequently, HOW you die greatly impacts your final tally. Die in a plane crash?…wow, that’ll get you more than a couple of notches. Kill yourself?..well, you lose some points there, big time.

Soo, enough of the morbid content. My wife and I visited Rasputin Music…this place ROCKS. I can spend the entire day there. She bought me “Planet Claire” and “Distination Unknown”, difficult titles to find on CD. Great albums indeed.

Well, gotta run. I got a call about a client who wants to jump to her death….no, really.
