24 Hours of Le Mons
The Pinnacle of Motorsports. The Ultimate in automotive technology. Wheel to wheel racing at it's finest...the 24 Hours of Le Mons. The only catch is your team CANNOT spend more than a total of 500 dollars on your vehicle, including performance mods...and excluding safety equipment, thank heaven.
This Sunday, the PerfectLine and I travelled to the historic Altamont Raceway in the middle of Bum#uck Egypt to witness the Race of All Races. Within the first five minutes, we were greeted to 3 spinouts, about a half dozen 2 wheel drops, an overheat, and an imploded right front axle...BTW, that old Porsche continued valiantly for half a lap dragging it's wheel and spindle behind him. Here, literally was my first pic...as you can see, in the background is a spin, and all that dust was from cars forced off the track and into the sandy infield.
This maniac got his front bumper nearly ripped off and simply continued to race with the bumper dragging ahead of him.
Speaking of technology unparallelled, this guy relocated his radiator and used it as a rear spoiler.
This was a great car, the "Camarovertible" fielded by "Team Sum Bitch". You have to understand, it wasn't a convertible at the start of the race. The top was in such bad shape that even the judges said that it was only a matter of time when the roof would fly off, and perhaps into the stands. Sooo they simply cut it out and with it, the windshield. This guy drove the piss out of this car. He was a master of oversteer...but then again, he must have spun at least 8 times in one hour.
And of course, Team DO or DIE's Hearse. Their drivers were insane. By the last hour of the race, they had lost several gears on the tranny and continued to race, embodying their DO or DIE team concept. Along the straights, however, they were just one huge moving chicane.
So, I'll stop here for now and pick it up tomorrow.
